Overview
Lotherton is a splendid Edwardian estate which is only a short drive from Leeds and boasts extensive grounds, beautiful gardens and a Red Deer Park. Lotherton is the former home of the Gascoigne family who lived there from 1825 until 1968. The Hall now tells the story of its former owners through furniture, paintings, silver and ceramics worthy of a national museum. Outdoors there are the two adventure playgrounds, woodlands and orchard to explore. The conservation zoo Wildlife World houses a colony of penguins and brand new Nocturnal House which is home to amazing animals including a three-banded armadillo. An exciting programme of events and activities run throughout the year and a membership package is available for regular visitors to get the best value.

About the area
Everybody knows that Yorkshire has some special landscapes. The Dales and the Moors first spring to mind, but what about West Yorkshire? That’s Leeds and Bradford isn’t it? Back-to-back houses and blackened mills… Certainly if you had stood on any of the hills surrounding Hebden Bridge a hundred years ago, and gazed down into the valley, all you would have seen was the pall of smoke issuing from the chimneys of 33 textile mills.
