What does 'best rated' mean?
All places to stay and eat on RatedTrips.com are rated by either the AA or VisitEngland.
The best star-rated places to stay within each star rating banding receive extra awards from either the AA or VisitEngland on top of their rating.
The best UK hotels are given 'Red star' awards by the AA, while the best VisitEngland hotels receive a gold award. AA and VisitEngland B&Bs and self catering properties are awarded 'gold stars'. Caravan, camping and glamping parks get gold stars and, at the very top end, 5 AA platinum stars.
The very best restaurants receive 3, 4 or 5 AA Rosettes. From VisitEngland, they may receive a gold 'Taste' award.
The best visitor attractions are awarded accolades each year in one of 5 categories.
