George and Dragon, Clifton★★★★
"A warm welcome, original features and good use of local produce."
Overview
The George and Dragon is an 18th-century coaching inn located just south of Penrith, ideally located for the Lakes and surrounding areas. The restored property reflects its Georgian heritage and retains many original features and materials. All 14 bedrooms have been individually designed and most feature art & furniture from owner Charles’ family’s collection. The bar is warm and welcoming with several real ales on offer. The award-winning dishes use mainly local produce, much of which comes from the owners' estate.

About the area
Cumbria's rugged yet beautiful landscape is best known for the Lake District National Park that sits within its boundaries. It’s famous for Lake Windermere, England’s largest lake, and Derwent Water, ‘Queen of the English Lakes', but other lesser-known areas in the south, such as the Lune Valley and the coastal towns, are secret gems of wide cobbled streets and rolling hills.
