The Beeley Inn
"Village pub with brasserie and rooms"
Overview
If you want to claim you've stayed at Chatsworth (the house is a mile away), book a room here, for this 18th-century, stone-built village inn lies on the Devonshire estate. Allegedly, Edward VII often entertained his mistress, Alice Keppel, here. Surviving from its early days are the low-beamed ceilings, stone-flagged floors and log fires, while far more up-to-date features are the Brasserie's full-height windows overlooking the village square. Expect cask-conditioned ales, a good wine list and contemporary dishes like juniper-and dill-cured salmon, horseradish crème fraîche; pickled cucumber, with Creedy Carver duck, fermented black garlic, potato rösti, hispi cabbage and pomegranate; and baked macaroni and cheese, wild mushrooms and pickled beetroot salad.

About the area
The natural features of this central English county range from the modest heights of the Peak District National Park, where Kinder Scout stands at 2,088 ft (636 m), to the depths of its remarkable underground caverns, floodlit to reveal exquisite Blue John stone. Walkers and cyclists will enjoy the High Peak Trail which extends from the Derwent Valley to the limestone plateau near Buxton, and for many, the spectacular scenery is what draws them to the area.
