The Bunk Inn

"Village tavern just outside Newbury."
Overview
One of the oldest buildings in the village, this inn is owned by the Upham Group so you’ll find their beers at the bar. The snug remains a comfy focus for chatter or contemplation, and there’s also an airy restaurant with eye-catching decor, or a heated patio. The chefs work with local suppliers to create dishes like Thai crab bonbons with curried crème fraiche; or twice baked poacher cheese soufflé, apple, walnut and pomegranate salad. Main courses could be seared cumin duck breast; chalk stream trout; pan roasted corn-fed chicken supreme with crispy egg and pressed pancetta velouté; or gorgonzola risotto with maple figs and ricotta. The charcuterie sharing platter (salami, chorizo, Parma ham, pistachio ham hock, toasted artisan bread, chutney and antipasti) is always a popular choice.

About the area
Berkshire consists of two distinct parts: the western half, which is predominantly rural, with the Lambourn Downs spilling down to the River Lambourn and the Berkshire Downs to the majestic Thames, and the eastern half of Berkshire, which offers plenty of opportunity to get out and savour open spaces. Reading and Newbury are the county’s major towns, and the River Kennet flows through them both.
