The Brownlow Arms
"Country-house-style village inn."
Overview
This 17th-century stone inn ticks all the boxes. Named after former owner Lord Brownlow, it still looks, inside and out, every inch the country house it once was. Enjoy a pint of Timothy Taylor Landlord in the convivial bar, while browsing the menu for the two AA-Rosette standard dishes such as gin and lavender-cured salmon with a beetroot and juniper coulis; and pan-roasted pork tenderloin, pork belly fritter, pickled apple purée, mash, Savoy cabbage and red wine jus. The landscaped terrace invites outdoor drinking and dining, although please note that children must be eight or over to be allowed in the pub, and only at lunchtime from Wednesday to Saturday.

About the area
Much of the fenland around the Wash has been drained of its marshes and reclaimed as highly productive farmland. Further north, the coastline, with its sandy beaches, has been developed to accommodate the holiday industry, with caravans, campsites and the usual seaside paraphernalia.
