Overview
These unique and remarkable neolithic flint mines are the earliest remaining major industrial site in Europe. Using antlers as picks, prehistoric miners sank shafts and tunnels deep into the ground following seams of flint. It is possible to descend by a series of ladders to the bottom of one of the shafts to see how flint was extracted. A small exhibition area gives the site's history.
