Palace of Holyroodhouse
Overview
The Palace grew from the royal chambers of the Abbey of Holyrood, said to have been founded by David I after a miraculous apparition. Mary, Queen of Scots had her court here from 1561 to 1567, and 'Bonnie' Prince Charlie set up court at the Palace during his occupation of Edinburgh in 1745. Today the Royal Apartments are used by King Charles the 3rd for state ceremonies and official entertaining, and are finely decorated with works of art from the Royal Collection.
