Wellbrook Beetling Mill
Overview
This 18th-century water-powered beetling mill was used for beetling and, until 1961, for finishing Irish linen. Beetling was the name given to the final process in linen making, when the material was beaten by 30 or so hammers (beetles) to achieve a smooth and slightly shiny finish. Now the only working beetling mill in Ireland. Take part in hands-on demonstrations, set against the thundering sound of the beetling engines.
