Alloa Tower

Recommended by Visit England Logo
Overview
Beautifully restored, the tower, completed in 1467, is the only remaining part of the ancestral home of the Earls of Mar. The structure retains rare medieval features, notably the complete timber roof structure and groin vaulting. A superb loan collection of portraits and chattels of the Erskine family includes silverware, china and paintings by Raeburn and Van Dyck. There are four floors as well as a dungeon, and living history actors regale visitors with tales of an abbot's curse, crib ghosts, and the building's ruin and restoration.
