Halliggye Fogou

Recommended by Visit England Logo
Overview
This mysterious place dates from the Cornish Iron Age and is a complex of well preserved underground tunnels roofed and walled in stone. ‘Fogou’ in Cornish means ‘cave’ and nobody really know what these were used for, though it has been suggested that they could have been refuges, storage chambers or shrines. The fogou is part of the Trelowarren Estate but it is free to enter and is under the care of English Heritage. You may have to pay their car park fee unless you’re a member. Dogs on leads are welcome. Bring a torch.
