The Derwent Pencil Museum
Overview
Investigating the history and technology of an object most of us take utterly for granted, this interesting museum includes a replica of the Borrowdale mine where graphite was first discovered, the world's longest coloured pencil, children's activity area, and various artistic techniques that use pencils. Entry is through a replica graphite mine. Artist demonstrations and workshops will take place throughout the year. Dress up as a WW2 pilot and learn all about the secret WW2 spy pencil made in the factory in the 1940's.

About the area
Cumbria's rugged yet beautiful landscape is best known for the Lake District National Park that sits within its boundaries. It’s famous for Lake Windermere, England’s largest lake, and Derwent Water, ‘Queen of the English Lakes', but other lesser-known areas in the south, such as the Lune Valley and the coastal towns, are secret gems of wide cobbled streets and rolling hills.
