Overview
This small museum, near to the River Parrett, deals with the history of Bridgwater, as well as the life of Robert Blake, who was born here in 1598. Blake was the founder of today's British Royal Navy. During his life Blake was a member of Cromwell's New Model Army, took part in the blockade of Cádiz during the Anglo-Spanish War of 1654, and wrote The Laws of War and Ordinances of the Sea (Ordained and Established by the Parliament of the Commonwealth of England). On his death in 1657 he was given a state funeral. The building is Grade II* listed and has a souvenir shop as well as a cafe area and gardens where visitors can enjoy a picnic.

Another popular spot, the Quantocks, once the haunt of poets Coleridge and Wordsworth, are noted for their gentle slopes, heather-covered moorland expanses and red deer.
