Benvarden Garden & Grounds

Overview
The Benvarden Estate is the ancestral home of the Montgomery family. Most of the mature tree landscaping took place in the early 1800s. The two-acre Walled Garden, dating from 1780, has a 10ft high curved red-brick wall with espalier-trained apple and pear trees. There are also herbaceous borders, a rose garden, a box parterre, a kitchen garden and woodland walks around the lake with magnolias, azaleas and rhododendrons. The extensive grounds stretch down to the River Bush which is spanned by a 90ft iron bridge. Also worthy of note are the snowdrops, daffodils, bluebells, camellias, fruit trees and hostas.
