The Picton Garden
Overview
Near the spa town of Malvern, the Picton Garden grew up around Ernest Ballard's renowned Michaelmas Daisy nursery, which is still in operation, offering a great selection of plants for sale. In the garden, many fine specimens of interesting trees and shrubs form the backdrop to thousands of herbaceous perennials. The garden is planted with areas of modern, natural planting schemes as well as traditional borders. Unsurprisingly, its main feature is the Plant Heritage Collection of Autumn Flowering Asters (Michaelmas Daisies) and related genera, which bring a palette of vibrant autumnal colours to the garden during September and October. A wide range of other herbaceous perennials is grown alongside the asters, ensuring a colourful display from late July. The bulbs, trees, shrubs and woodland plants make a fascinating display earlier in the year.

About the area
Herefordshire is split in two by the River Wye which meanders through the county on its way to the Severn and the sea. Largely rural, with Hereford, Leominster, and Ross-on-Wye the major towns and cities, its countryside and ancient villages are the county’s major asset.
