"Cumbrian countryside setting for convivial, relaxed dining with great food."
Overview
The Dog and Gun has earned the status of a foodie destination these days, but it’s still a proper pub, refreshingly free of airs and graces. Book ahead to bag one of 12 tables in the tiny dining room and turn up for clear flavours and hearty portions in a simple, pared back setting. The constantly evolving menu shows a passion for local ingredients in simple, flavour-first cooking; sharp modern gastropub dishes at their finest. Opening the show, an exemplary twice-baked Trusmadoor Cheese soufflé with chives, followed by sourdough crusted halibut with roasted lemon and vermouth butter sauce, and, to finish, dark chocolate millefeuille with walnut caramel and bayleaf ice cream.

About the area
Cumbria's rugged yet beautiful landscape is best known for the Lake District National Park that sits within its boundaries. It’s famous for Lake Windermere, England’s largest lake, and Derwent Water, ‘Queen of the English Lakes', but other lesser-known areas in the south, such as the Lune Valley and the coastal towns, are secret gems of wide cobbled streets and rolling hills
