"Knowledgeable staff create a welcoming atmosphere throughout."
Overview
Barley Hall is a stunning medieval townhouse discovered by chance in the 1980s, and restored to its original glory by York Archaeological Trust. The magnificent Great Hall dates to 1430, and allows you to truly experience what it would have been like to live in medieval England. Visitors can also enjoy the Magic & Mystery exhibition, showcasing a thought-provoking and often misinterpreted feature of medieval culture. Explore the fine line between science, religion and magic in medieval society.

About the area
North Yorkshire, with its two National Parks and two designated Areas of Outstanding Natural Beauty, is England’s largest county and one of the most rural. This is prime walking country, from the heather-clad heights of the North York Moors to the limestone country that is so typical of the Yorkshire Dales – a place of contrasts and discoveries, of history and legend.
