The Thomas Lord
"Country inn with impressive cricket connections."
Overview
Thomas Lord, the eponymous founder of Lord’s Cricket Ground, retired to the pretty village of West Meon in 1830 and is buried in the churchyard. This beautifully restored pub has a bar decorated with cricketing memorabilia and it’s an agreeable setting for well-kept seasonal and guest ales, or a chilled glass of white chosen from the sophisticated range of wines. Herbs, salads and vegetables are grown in the pub’s own garden; otherwise the kitchen is supplied by local farms and small-scale producers. A typical meal might start with pigeon, Waldorf salad, candied walnut, celery, apple and blue cheese, followed by beef sirloin, beef dripping mash, braised shallot, shallot purée, sautéed kale.
