"Estuaryside location with extravagant views"
Overview
Tucked amidst creeks and moorings where the River Ancholme meets the Humber Estuary; panoramic views from the patio and restaurant encompass the waterways and nearby Humber Bridge. An appealingly, updated 19th-century inn, with much exposed brickwork and a log-burning stove, this is a popular stop for birdwatchers and dog-walkers. Lincolnshire-brewed beers hit the spot and a happy mix of seasonal cuisine and traditional pub grub celebrates local produce, including from the pub's own acreage; Lincolnshire pheasant with creamed sprouts and polenta may feature. Charcoal-grilled steaks are the speciality of the house; the belted Galloway meat is matured in an ageing-cabinet on-site.

About the area
Much of the fenland around the Wash has been drained of its marshes and reclaimed as highly productive farmland. Further north, the coastline, with its sandy beaches, has been developed to accommodate the holiday industry, with caravans, campsites and the usual seaside paraphernalia.
