The Granby Inn
"Popular with visitors to the Northumbrian coast"
Overview
Once a coaching inn, this family-run pub just north of Morpeth is perfectly situated for exploring the stunning Northumbrian coast and the ancient town of Alnwick. Dating back around 250 years, The Granby Inn prides itself on being a traditional pub for a pint in the cosy bar but the food attracts diners from all over. Local sourcing extends to meat from a nearby butcher and fish from North Shields, all of which turns up in dishes such as smoked haddock and potato crumble; grilled lamb chops with pearl barley and pea purée; and home-made cottage pie.

About the area
If it’s history you’re after, there’s heaps of it in Northumberland. On Hadrian’s Wall you can imagine scarlet-cloaked Roman legionaries keeping watch for painted Pictish warriors while cursing the English weather and dreaming of home.
