"Family-friendly pub near Longleat Safari Park."
Overview
A member of the expanding Upham Group, The George is a 17th-century coaching inn that overlooks the grassy banks of the River Wylye. Set in an acre of grassland, there’s plenty of space for summertime drinking and dining, and the pub is handy for Stonehenge, Salisbury and Longleat. Upham started out as a brewery, so it's their beers that sit alongside guest ales. Food is served in the oak-beamed Smithy Bar and in the two restaurants, where menus open classic prawn cocktail; Scotch egg with black pudding and sage; and garlic and rosemary backed camembert. Next up, beer-battered cod, hand cut chips, peas and homemade tartare sauce; steak and kidney pudding with red wine gravy, or 10oz gammon steak with grilled pineapple or fried egg, chips and peas.
