"Country pub with stylish accommodation"
Overview
Built in 1820 as a stopover for mail coaches, later becoming a fishing lodge, it is owned and run by Meikleour Estate, one of the oldest in east Scotland, which farms, manages forests and offers salmon fishing on the Tay and Isla. In 2017 it underwent a complete renovation and now has luxury accommodation. The inn's own Lure of Meikleour real ale inhabits the bar, as does an extensive wine list; with one of the pub's owners coming from Bordeaux expect some good clarets, as well as wines from off-the-beaten-track vineyards elsewhere. Eat in the traditional flagstone-floored bar, the woodland-themed stone barn, the more intimate private dining room, or in the garden. The restaurant serves country food, including venison from estate woods, beef from Aberdeenshire, white fish from the East Coast, mussels from Shetland and rod-caught trout from local lochs. All home-made are haggis with fondant neeps and tatties; crispy Saddleback pork belly salad; Shetland moules frites; steak and ale pie; and kedgeree with smoked haddock, cod and quail eggs. For dessert, orange crème brûlée, or poached spiced pear with glazed vanilla rice pudding. Well-behaved dogs are welcome in the restaurant, in some of the bedrooms and all guest cottages.

About the area
Perth and Kinross, sheltered by the Grampian Mountains, is often regarded as the Heart of Scotland, and its mountains, lochs and glens yearn to be explored. Just outside the ancient city of Perth is Scone Palace, home of the mystical Stone of Destiny, on which 42 Scottish Kings were crowned.
