"Renowned destination for refined dining."
Overview
Floor-to-ceiling windows give views on to the little jetty and its moored boats, and here in the placid upper reaches of the Thames everything really is idyllic. The cooking, too, is all you could wish for, with chef patron Alain Roux at the helm. From a spring menu there could be a starter of pan-fried foie gras Grenobloise, caramelised orange and bean sprouts, to be followed by braised Cornish turbot, baby artichokes scented with kaffir lime leaves and Oscietra caviar beurre blanc sauce. End a memorable meal with dark guanaja chocolate delice with Sicilian Bronte pistachios and fresh cacao fruit sorbet. Show more

About the area
Berkshire consists of two distinct parts: the western half, which is predominantly rural, with the Lambourn Downs spilling down to the River Lambourn and the Berkshire Downs to the majestic Thames, and the eastern half of Berkshire, which offers plenty of opportunity to get out and savour open spaces. Reading and Newbury are the county’s major towns, and the River Kennet flows through them both
