Overview
This former toll house by the River Stour dates from Tudor times, and the Milsom family has run this East Anglian stalwart since 1952. Inside, the look is smartly formal with neutral, contemporary decor against the period character of leaded mullioned windows and bare beams soaring to the roof. The kitchen stays abreast of culinary trends, sending out modern dishes full of precision and inspiration. Smoked salmon tart with dashi jelly, mirin, black caviar, siam sauce and radish might precede roast fillet of British beef, pomme purée with crispy onion and chive, wild mushroom fricassée tart and peppercorn sauce.
