"Accomplished modern cooking next to a castle."
Overview
Almost hidden at the foot of Lancaster Castle, Merchants 1688 occupies a Grade II listed stone-vaulted wine cellar dating from the 17th century. Low ceilings and a small flagstoned beer garden create a real sense of history here although the menu reflects modern pub cooking using local meat coming from the fells of Cumbria and fish from Fleetwood.
