Overview
A dedicated speedy lift whizzes to Jason Atherton’s City Social on Tower 42’s 24th floor, where views of the cityscape (the Gherkin, the Cheesegrater and the Shard) come into sharp focus. The darkly moody space oozes class, with rosewood panelling, horseshoe booths, leather banquettes and a mirrored ceiling. The food easily lives up to those amazing vistas; inventive, refined and detailed, classically founded modern European cooking, bursting with balanced flavours. Riffing on a classic theme, Dorset snails arrive with pearl barley, roasted garlic, bacon and bourguignon sauce, then Newlyn cod teamed with asparagus, English peas, girolles and clam chowder come dressed-to-thrill as everything else does.
