Close to Green Park and Buckingham Palace, everything about the stylish Flemings Hotel is tasteful, discreet and extremely high quality – exemplary attributes that apply equally to Ormer Mayfair, its high-flying restaurant. The intimate basement setting is classically elegant with green leather and upholstered banquettes and chairs, oak-panelled walls, distressed mirrors and striking black and white-striped marble floors. Friendly, if slightly formal, service sets the mood for seasonal tasting menus that are a showcase for the accomplished, highly intricate cooking of executive chef Sofian Msetfi. Big flavours, precise technique and a lightness of touch, plus exotic notes that reflect the chef’s Moroccan heritage are hallmarks of turbot 'Marocaine' with green chilli emulsion, pickled kohlrabi and lemon gel, and duck ‘zaalouk’ a flavour-packed two-part dish, the breast matched with aubergine and tomato ramped up with garlic and coriander, alongside a pot of braised leg with couscous and wine espuma.
