BlueBell Arboretum & Nursery

Recommended by Visit England Logo
Overview
An RHS Garden Partner, The BlueBell Arboretum has one of the finest collections of unusual trees and shrubs in Derbyshire. The woodland garden was first planted in 1992 and now covers nine acres. Many shrubs and smaller trees display their full adult beauty while the large trees are still young (most are under 22 years). The arboretum is a lovely woodland walk with rare plants to see – signs give detailed information about these unusual varieties. Most can be purchased as young plants from the adjoining nursery where knowledgeable staff are on hand to advise. Guided tours are available too.

About the area
The natural features of this central English county range from the modest heights of the Peak District National Park, where Kinder Scout stands at 2,088 ft (636 m), to the depths of its remarkable underground caverns, floodlit to reveal exquisite Blue John stone. Walkers and cyclists will enjoy the High Peak Trail which extends from the Derwent Valley to the limestone plateau near Buxton, and for many, the spectacular scenery is what draws them to the area.
