Tapeley Park
Overview
Tapeley has belonged to the same family since 1702, with the name changing from Clevland to Christie, the family from Glyndebourne in Sussex, when Agnes Clevland married William Christie. Tapeley is now run by farmer and passionate activist Hector, with his pro-local, anti-corporate stance. The Italian Terraces, created in the late 1800s are a sight of real beauty brimming with rare and exotic plants - a very fine example of classic Victorian garden design in a truly stunning location. The Lake, at the end of the ravine, is surrounded by huge Thuja-Plicata trees, the oldest specimens in the country. It is a magical and tranquil place to relax. The Permaculture Garden is now a most enlightening garden. Butterflies and other insects thrive in this sustainable garden.
