Overview
Sheltered by ancient trees, bordered by rolling lawns and framed by high stone walls, Turton Tower is a wonderful place to explore. It was built in 1420 as a simple fortress but later became a family home during the Tudor and Stuart periods. The Orrell family added to it during the 17th century, and other extensions were built after that by various other familes, including a 'mock Tudor' addition during the 19th century. Inside are some of the finest paintings and furniture in the region.
