Doddington Hall
Overview
Begun in 1595 by Robert Smythson, one of England's foremost architects, Doddington Hall was completed in 1600, and has never been re-sold or cleared out since then. An excellent example of a late fine Elizabethan mansion, it is still a lived-in and much loved family home, alive with history and interest. Photo credit: gateway - Val Corbett

About the area
Much of the fenland around the Wash has been drained of its marshes and reclaimed as highly productive farmland. Further north, the coastline, with its sandy beaches, has been developed to accommodate the holiday industry, with caravans, campsites and the usual seaside paraphernalia.
