Overview
The car enthusiasts in your family will be thrilled by the exhibits on show in this lovely museum housed in the moated 15th-century Caister Castle. The museum’s display of rare vintage, classic and sports motor vehicles dates from the late 19th century through to the present day and is the largest private collection in the country. It includes the first real motor car in the world, the 1893 Panhard et Levassor. There is also the first Ford Fiesta off the production line and the Lotus belonging to British Formula One racing driver and world champion Jim Clark (1936–68). The castle itself was built in 1432 by English knight Sir John Fastolf (1378–1459) and is notable for being one of the earliest brick constructions in the country. You can climb to the top of its 90 foot-high tower. The spectacular castle and countryside view is worth the effort.

About the area
The North Norfolk Coast is designated an Area of Outstanding Natural Beauty and probably the finest of its kind in Europe. Here you’ll find a string of quaint villages and small towns – Holkham, Wells-next-the-Sea and Cley next the Sea are 21st-century favourites, while Sheringham and Cromer are classic examples of a good old-fashioned seaside resort where grand Victorian hotels look out to sea.
