Overview
Houghton Hall is one of the finest Palladian houses in the country, built for Britain's first Prime Minister, Sir Robert Walpole in the 1720s. The finest craftsmen of the time were employed and much of the original fabric and furniture are still in place. The Hall is surrounded by parkland, home to white fallow and exotic deer and contemporary sculptures. The award winning 5 acre walled garden includes a formal rose parterre, Mediterranean French lavender garden, kitchen garden, glasshouses, stunning herbaceous borders, fountains and statues. A soldier museum is housed in the Stable Square where the old stables, tack room, gift shop and fully licensed café can also be found. Check website for details of forthcomung events.
