Byland Abbey

Overview
A hauntingly beautiful monastic ruin dating back to 1177, and set in peaceful meadows in the shadow of the Hambleton Hills. Marvel at the collection of medieval floor tiles still in their original setting. The dramatic west facade, with its 26-foot diameter window, still stands almost to its full height, and gives an impression of just how huge the nave used to be.
