Lindisfarne Castle

Overview
This 16th-century fort was restored by Sir Edwin Lutyens in 1903. The austere outside walls belie the Edwardian comfort within, which includes antique Flemish and English furniture, porcelain and polished brass. A small walled garden designed by Gertrude Jekyll is set on the southward facing slope, some 500 metres to the north of the castle. Spectacular views from the ramparts to the Farne Islands, Bamburgh Castle and beyond. The Castle will be closed for 2017 season for major building conservation works, due to reopen spring/summer 2018.
