This college of Oxford University retains its distinctive ancient title of Hall. St Edmund dates back to the thirteenth century, before most of the other colleges had been founded, and its premises include the only surviving medieval academic hall in Oxford. By virtue of its longevity, St Edmund has an unusual array of buildings: a Norman crypt, a 17th-century dining hall, a chapel, a quadrangle and 18th- and 20th-century contributions.
