Morville Hall (NT)
Overview
Originally an Elizabethan house, Morville Hall was extensively enlarged and expanded around 1750, giving it the appearance of a Georgian home. Look out for the interesting and quirky Elizabethan features of the original house; wander through to the back of the house where a flight of elegant stone steps lead down to a beautiful garden. Elizabethan topiary gardens reflect the age of the house, while a paved pool in the Italian gardens brings the luxury and style of the Georgians to the garden, seamlessly tying the two periods together. Please note: Unfortunately due to a change in arrangements Morville Hall is currently unavailable for tours to private individuals. If you are a specialist group wishing to visit the property please contact the National Trust with your specific requirements. The Dower House Garden opens every Sunday and Wednesday and Bank Holiday Mondays but is not run by the National Trust. Please contact Katherine Swift for further information on (01746) 714407.
About the area
Perhaps nowhere else in England will you find a county so deeply rural and with so much variety as Shropshire. Choose a clear day, climb to the top of The Wrekin, and look down on that ‘land of lost content’ so wistfully evoked by A E Housman.
