Dublin City Gallery The Hugh Lane

Recommended by Visit England Logo
Overview
Situated in Charlemont House, a fine Georgian building, the gallery's collection includes one of the most extensive collections of 20th-century Irish art. A superb range of international and Irish paintings, sculpture, works on paper and stained glass is also on show. Possibly the most fascinating aspect of the gallery is Francis Bacon's Studio, a complete reconstruction of the painter's studio, and a complete database of all the items in it. There are public lectures every Sunday and regular concerts (at noon on Sundays) throughout the year.

About the area
It is often visited on a weekend trip, but rushing around is not the best way to experience Dublin. When Ireland joined the European Union, an economic boom began that flourished in the ‘Celtic Tiger’ years of the 1990s – fashion, the arts, food and Irish culture all blossomed, turning Dublin into one of the world’s hottest city destinations.
