On Saltfleet's dunes

Our view
"A wander along the wildlife-rich salt marshes of North Lincolnshire."
Walk directions

From the car park go through the gate, fork left and take the second gate on the left to climb the steps and walk along the top of the dunes with the sea away to your right. Go past Sea View farm and a small parking area and continue beyond a white barred gate, forking right to reach the marshes. Go left and follow the clear track along the edge of the marshes.

At the far end of the dunes, join a rough lane across two successive bridges, then turn right on to the pavement of the coast road. After 100yds (91m) cross another bridge and turn right beside an unmade lane indicated 'Saltfleet Haven'. Follow the public footpath along the top of the flood defence all the way to the small car park among the dunes – and a bit further if you want to view the sandy bay and river mouth (tide permitting).

About the area
Much of the fenland around the Wash has been drained of its marshes and reclaimed as highly productive farmland. Further north, the coastline, with its sandy beaches, has been developed to accommodate the holiday industry, with caravans, campsites and the usual seaside paraphernalia.
