"Fireground is a hidden gem that brings to life the history of firefighting in a way that’s both educational and engaging."
Overview
Discover Greater Manchester's fighting story at the Fireground museum – situated just outside Rochdale town centre, the museum tells the proud story of firefighting in the Manchester region. As well as the main collection of more than twenty fire engines – the oldest dating from 1741 – the museum, housed in a restored fire station, offers an impressive collection of equipment and memorabilia. It’s a fascinating place for both children and adults, showcasing the area's firefighting history, engineering, and the brave work of firefighters. The team here are friendly and helpful, and the facilities clean and well-maintained. The volunteers are happy to give guided tours of the museum, provide insight into the history of firefighting and share their experiences.
