"Quintessentially English country house with a real ‘wow’ factor."
Overview
Gravetye Manor is a beautiful Elizabethan mansion, built in 1598 and enjoying a tranquil setting. One of the first country house hotels in Britain, it remains an excellent example of its type. Bedrooms and bathrooms have been sympathetically appointed with style and luxurious finishing touches. The day rooms, each with oak-panelling, fresh flower arrangements and open fires, create a relaxing atmosphere. Guests should take time to explore the impressive gardens and grounds which are a perfect spot for afternoon tea. The restaurant, designed with floor-to-ceiling windows overlooks the garden. The excellent, seasonal, award-winning cuisine based on ingredients from the kitchen garden and local suppliers is truly outstanding.

About the area
Divided from East Sussex back in 1888, West Sussex has a variety of landscapes and coastal scenery, but it is the spacious and open South Downs with which the county is most closely associated. There are plenty of walking routes in the South Downs National Park, cycling routes by the sea or visitors can explore the pretty town of Arundel with its historic castle and buildings.
