The Cock and Bull
"Country inn with great food of impeccable provenance"
Overview
A cast-iron range warms the bar in this creeper-clad, stone-built coaching inn, standing quite alone in open farmland north of Aberdeen. Conversation is easily stimulated by local artist Irene Morrison’s paintings, assorted hanging artefacts and good beer. Affordably priced food in the restaurant uses Marine Stewardship Council-approved white fish and Peterhead-landed shellfish; and beef and pork from the region’s stock farms. A seasonal menu might list ham hock terrine with pineapple salsa; braised ox cheek; or fillet of hake with mussels and samphire. Great wines and whiskies as well.
