Overview
For serious fans of ancient Cornish history and heritage, these two carved pieces of a 9th-century Celtic cross commemorate Dumgarth, the British King of Dumnonia, who drowned around ad 875. They are the only surviving examples of a 9th-century stone cross in Cornwall. The stones are in a walled enclosure by the road, a mile northwest of St Cleer. Visitors can park in the layby nearby.
