The Peat Inn
"Wonderful local produce and bold combinations in a stylish setting."
Overview
This 18th-century coaching inn has long been a dining destination – a contemporary restaurant with rooms in a separate block. The look is sleek and stylish, with pale wood, bright colours, and modern art on the walls. Seating is very comfortable, and the feel is smart and elegant, with three dining areas. The wine list is impressive, and the staff, led by chef-patron Geoffrey Smeddle, are friendly, formal and professional.
The main menu changes seasonally, and there’s also a daily-changing menu and a tasting option. This is thoughtful, imaginative, modern Scottish cooking with great attention paid to local produce.

About the area
This 20-mile wide peninsula between the Firth of Forth and the Firth of Tay is an ancient kingdom, once the home of Scotland’s kings and saints. Despite its modern bridges it still seems curiously detached from the rest of the country
