The Bell Inn
"Excellent regional cooking at this village pub."
Overview
In the picturesque village of Selsley, close to the busy market town of Stroud, The Bell dates back to the 16th-century but it has changed with the times and is now a destination dining pub. The kitchen looks to the immediate area for its ingredients so expect a starter of beetroot and Cerney goat’s curd salad with pea shoots to kick off a meal, perhaps followed by rump fillet of local beef with rösti potato, purple sprouting broccoli and shallots. Flourless orange and grapefruit cake with home-made ice cream makes for a satisfying finale. Ales from nearby Uley brewery keep local drinkers happy, as do the 70 gins on offer.

About the area
Gloucestershire is home to a variety of landscapes, including the Cotswolds, a region of gentle hills, valleys and gem-like villages that roll through the county. To their west is the Severn Plain, watered by Britain’s longest river and characterised by orchards and farms marked out by hedgerows that blaze with mayflower in the spring; beyond the Severn are the Forest of Dean and the Wye Valley.
