"Great hospitality in a country setting"
Overview
The inn dates from 1621, and the premises have held a licence for over 300 years; the names of all the landlords are known. The sheltered south-facing garden enjoys wonderful open views, and it’s an ideal space for children during the warmer months. Inside you’ll find log burners in the stone fireplaces, an ever-changing range of cask ales, and a short menu of popular pub dishes. These embrace starters of Thai fishcake with salad and dip; or duck pancakes with hoisin sauce; and main courses of beef rendang with rice; steak and ale pie; brie and beetroot tart; or home-baked ham salad and new potatoes.

About the area
The natural features of this central English county range from the modest heights of the Peak District National Park, where Kinder Scout stands at 2,088 ft (636 m), to the depths of its remarkable underground caverns, floodlit to reveal exquisite Blue John stone. Walkers and cyclists will enjoy the High Peak Trail which extends from the Derwent Valley to the limestone plateau near Buxton, and for many, the spectacular scenery is what draws them to the area.
