Overview
Opposite the Saxon church in the attractive village of Welwyn, this 13th-century coaching inn offers six comfortable bedrooms alongside its one AA-Rosette food. Inside, it’s cosy and stylish but when the weather allows, grab a table on the terrace or enjoy a drink by the river at the bottom of the garden. There is plenty of choice when it comes to food, from lunchtime sandwiches and wraps to sharing plates and ambitious modern British dishes listed on the ‘clipboard’ menus and blackboard specials. A notable 37 wines are sold by the glass.
