The Woodspeen – Restaurant and Cookery School
"Assured modern cooking with bucolic views."
Overview
Idyllic views of Berkshire countryside are just one of the attractions at The Woodspeen. A tastefully reinvented former village pub with a cookery school over the road, it’s a tranquil spot with a light and airy Scandi feel and an open kitchen for a touch of theatre – an ideal setting for full-flavoured seasonal dishes driven by homegrown ingredients. An elegant starter sets the scene: roasted Jerusalem artichoke alongside hazelnut pesto, goats’ curd and medjool date purée. Next up, rolled and pot-roasted pork belly comes with caramelised apple, kale, spring onion and sauce épice.

About the area
Berkshire consists of two distinct parts: the western half, which is predominantly rural, with the Lambourn Downs spilling down to the River Lambourn and the Berkshire Downs to the majestic Thames, and the eastern half of Berkshire, which offers plenty of opportunity to get out and savour open spaces. Reading and Newbury are the county’s major towns, and the River Kennet flows through them both
