Road Hole Restaurant
"Accomplished cooking overlooking the famous golf course."
Overview
Five-star luxury is not hard to find on the Scottish golfing circuit but if you want to bring together great food with grandstand views of the historic links at St Andrews, it just has to be the Old Course Hotel, where the Road Hole Restaurant delivers the goods with commanding views of the golf course and beyond to West Sands beach and the sweeping coastline. Taking its name from the tricky 17th hole – the ‘Road Hole’ – the place is looking rather sharp after a stylish modern makeover that draws inspiration from its breathtaking coastal surroundings, with a soothing palette of teal blue, warm tones and a custom-made, pale tartan carpet. If diners can tear their gaze away from the stick-swinging action on the greens, an alternative culinary theatre is on offer as most tables get a view of the chefs at work in the open kitchen. Given the setting, luxurious items come as no surprise – unimpeachable local and seasonal ingredients are at the heart of the kitchen’s endeavours.

About the area
This 20-mile wide peninsula between the Firth of Forth and the Firth of Tay is an ancient kingdom, once the home of Scotland’s kings and saints. Despite its modern bridges it still seems curiously detached from the rest of the country
