Prideaux Place
Overview
Situated above the picturesque port of Padstow is the Elizabethan Prideaux Place. Completed in 1592 by Nicholas Prideaux and still lived in by the family who can trace back their ancestry to William the Conqueror. Surrounded by 40 acres of landscaped gardens and overlooking a deer park, this splendid house contains a wealth of family and royal portraits, a fine porcelain collection, a growing teddy bear collection and a magnificent 16th-century plaster ceiling in the Great Chamber, which has some marvellous views across countryside to Bodmin Moor. There's plenty of opportunity for walking in both formal gardens and woodland, and there is also a peaceful tearoom. The house has been featured in many film and TV productions.
